Has Banksy met his match?

Published by admin under In the world of art and tech

Let it be said that I’m a Banksy fan but the DailyMail speculates Banksy’s met his match. Dunno, but you can judge for yourself. American artist Eric Gohe has been busy transforming buildings with lifelike murals that are getting plenty of attention. Is it graffiti? Not sure who really gets to decide that but hey, we’ve got plenty of examples of this in Pittsburgh too!

Fun public art

Published by admin under We love it you love it

This is my favourite kind of art- stuff that’s just wacky, public and makes you smile in the middle of a bad day. Check out these bits via Wooster: drinking straw in a lake by Vinchen, peeping shrubbery and tentacled buildings by Filthy Lucre, and 50 cent idea vending on the street by Charlie Todd. Hoping the ideas come to Pittsburgh too!

Towel cakes you just won’t believe!

Published by admin under We love it you love it

Mouthwatering parfaits and cakes from Prairie Dog look just like the real thing but don’t get your spoon out for these little Le Patissier cakes! They’re made from towels (don’t think baby shower towel cakes, think much much better) and the toppings can be used as mobile phone charms. Charming!

Nintendo fans rejoice!

Published by admin under We love it you love it

If you’ve been keeping up with Wipeout, the US version of Japanese MXC, you can quickly see what life for Mario and Luigi must really be like with all the dodging, jumping and getting flattened. Nintendo fans who want a less in your face experience or remember with joy the Legend of Zelda bedsheets from the 80’s will love the Mario wall decals from ThinkGeek at the grown up price of 74.99. Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros are also available.

Design and function- a mowerbike!

Published by admin under We love it you love it

When I was a kid my dad had one of those little metal push-pedal mowers he had me cut the grass with, which is all fine and well and builds arm muscles but has to be oiled and sharpened to keep it cutting sharp. So after I got married and we moved into an apartment where we had to take care of the lawn, I asked him to pass it on rather than me having to put gas in a ‘real’ mower. It worked well and gave me a workout and then I stumble across this ingenious hybrid of bike and mower. The author doesn’t have much info on the maker or if it’ll be available for sale but should this hit the local market, I’m first in line.

Japanese ice treats make your mouth water-with their packaging

Published by admin under We love it you love it

Necessity is the mother of invention- in a time when milk was scarce during war, Japan came up with its answer to ice cream- ice candy. Over the years it developed into not just a fun treat but one with mouth-watering designed packaging. If the flavours of adzuki bean and green tea turn you off, they’re not as bad as you think and how could you say no to these beautiful sweets?
