Wordie- the wiki for words
An artist can appreciate descriptive words and if you’re a logophile (person who loves words, not the LOGO channel) you’ll be interested in Wordie. Wordie is “like Flickr, but without the photos,” according to the site. You can make lists of your favourite words, look up words and comment on their meanings when you sign up. At least you’ll learn something new with such descriptors as jacqueminot and redonkulous You can also subscribe to their RSS feed Errata.

A heaven of sound at Audium
“We are conceived in sound … we grow and emerge in its wake. Our history is a collection of sound sensations, experiences, emotions all uniting into an aural identity. It is this oceanof recollections, sound images, dreams, memories we share.” -Stan Shaff, composer at Audium in San Francisco, California where 169 speakers build ’sound sculptures’ in the revolutionary theatre going strong since 1960. The building’s amazing design alone in order to accomodate its speakers and 49 seats is worth a look alone. PingMag has some good pictures of the inside of the theatre here.

Domino tales
Stumbled across this on youtube (my favourite weekend activity when I’m done w/everything else)- Domino Faerietales. Check this out- this guy has cleverly told the story of Snow White in dominoes. Things to look for- the hunter’s knife and a face in the apple.
And this domino rally that reminds us of a walkabout:

So you want to be a rock star…
So you want to be a rock star but your distribution consists of blaring a demo tape to your dog and neighbours upstairs. Here’s where TuneCore comes in- upload a single for $0.99 per track / $0.99 per album per store or just upload a single for a flat $9.99 to include all stores and storage for 1 year. That’s pretty sweet considering success often lies in distribution (location, location, location!) and with TuneCore you’ll have your music available to purchase on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, Amazon and others and you keep the royalties and rights. TuneCore is also beginning to take movie/film submissions.

Superheroes, get your tights here
Superheros can get as cool as they want to be but they’ll always wear tights for some reason. The blog’s name escapes us at the moment (sorry!!) but in Brooklyn’s Park Slope there’s a store called Brooklyn Superhero Supply. Well, let’s be clear- it’s a storefront for a creative nonprofit for kids ages 6-18 called 826NYC. 826NYC offers free programs for kids after school, writing and publishing help for students and english help amongst many other awesome things. You can take a look at some of the kids’ work in the writing gallery- we particularly liked the entry from the Encyclopedia of Imaginary Disorders and Oddities.

The house forlorn
While at PodCamp Pittsburgh 3 we ran into Alex Landefeld of the HouseForlorn blog. The Landefelds bought a new house and have not sold the old one yet so their house creatively ‘blogs’ about its experiences without its family. His wife also runs the site YeOldBasketCase, a site and blog about the baskets, beads, and wheat shapes she makes. We particularly like the wheat stars; if you’re familiar with this craft you’ll want to check her out- you can order by emailing through the site.
